The Idea

Chances are, no matter where you grew up this classic style windmill was a part of the landscape, so much so, that you probably just assumed that it created electricity. Strangely enough however, their primary purpose has been pumping water for the last 100 years or so and doing a very good job at it. So the question arose in 2004 while developing a Montana ranch project… Why not electricity?

The real inspiration for this idea began during the initial planning and sketching stages of the ranch where there were dreams of guest cabins, bunk houses, horse barns, a private chapel and yes… this historic, traditional style windmill. Much to our surprise, there was absolutely nothing on the market, in this style, producing electricity at that time. Hmmmm… what to do?

After a few years of exhaustive searching, we made the decision to assemble our own well rounded group of talented individuals to bring this idea to life. The group was comprised of a mechanical engineer, a fabricator, a contractor and a designer. The unique skill set of each individual was grounded by the understanding that we were creating something timeless. That this endeavor was as much about creating functional art and aesthetics as it was about efficiency and electricity. We also understood that this was directed toward a small scale residential level, there were no aspirations of huge wind farms here.

Once we had perfected the technical aspects of generating electricity and connecting seamlessly with a grid tie application, the next step was to finalize a well proportioned timber tower that stayed true to the original iconic form. It also had to be easy to install and would need to stand the test of time.

From the very first prototype, the interest in this style of windmill generating electricity has been phenomenal! We now have current installations ranging from ranch projects, small residential developments, mountain homes and most recently, small commercial applications. So whether you are interested in lessening your carbon footprint, reducing our dependence on the Middle East or just love the look and wanted a reason to have one, now is the time and the perfect opportunity.
